China GT will be joined by the Audi R8 LMS Series as well as again by the Audi Sport Festival on behalf of FAW-VW Audi.
There was a lively atmosphere at the China GT Championship Zhuhai R5 and R6 opening ceremony, as fans got the chance to get up close and personal with the stars of the track. The ceremony was held on the starting line of the track and featured a drive-by including all the competitors.The Audi Sport Festival will stage a truly top-of-the-range motorsports celebration in front of the Shanghai audience. With the Audi Sport display, the Audi Sport high-performance street circuit, the Audi R8 LMS Cup, the China GT Championship, and 2017 Car Festival of Speed all in one go, the 2017 Audi Sport Festival presents a one-stop shop for all motorsport enthusiast. The Festival will also roll out two of Audi Sport’s latest high-performance vehicles, the Audi RS3 Limousine and the Audi TT RS Coupé.
Shanghai will also see a myriad of improvements come into effect starting with the appointment of Kendy Chan as Race Director, bringing with him 40 years of motor racing experience – as a driver who raced competitively in Europe, North America and Asia, and previously was race director for both the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Pacific; an appointed Jury and Jury President for Moto GP, World Superbike Championship and the World Endurance Championship. Kendy’s experience and knowledge of the Chinese motorsport landscape coupled with his tri-lingual language skills (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin) make him an obvious choice to advance the standard of adjudication in China GT. Kendy will be supported by a trio of stewards including the well-renown Rikki Dy-Liacco in the capacity of Chairman of the Stewards.
Avid followers of the China GT Championship would know that we have welcomed a new addition, the GT4 Class, to the original GT3 and GTC categories. The season so far has seen a gradual increase of cars, drivers and teams taking part in this championship fight, and we are expecting a record breaking number of entries and spectators for the Shanghai race weekend.
